Peñagaricano is an assistant professor of animal and dairy sciences at UW–Madison. His research primarily focuses on development and application of methods to analyze the genetic architecture of economically relevant traits in livestock.

Peñagaricano’s project utilizes a C-Lock GreenFeed unit, an automated, head-chamber type system, to monitor methane and carbon dioxide mass fluxes from the breath of ruminant animals. This delivers reliable estimates of enteric methane emissions in dairy cattle and expands the capacity to perform high-impact research on methane emissions from dairy cattle.
