Compton is a professor of environmental horticulture and plant biotechnology at UW–Platteville.

This project will evaluate the effectiveness of hot composted dairy fiber as an organic addendum to horticultural growing medium, usually sphagnum moss peat, used in the production of native plant species found in the Midwestern prairies and woodlands over the course of a three year study. Funded equipment includes supplies for growing plants in greenhouses, fertilizer injectors, automated irrigation systems, and manure analysis.
